Backlit or front-lit: choose the right look.
Both can make a business name visible after dark. The useful difference is where the light appears—and how that light works with your wall, logo and surroundings.
Metal backlit: a halo behind the letters.
A metal backlit sign uses opaque metal faces, with illumination directed toward the mounting surface behind the lettering. The light creates a halo around the letters rather than an illuminated letter face. You may also see this described as halo-lit or reverse-lit channel lettering.
It is a useful direction for reception walls, office branding and selected storefronts where dimensional lettering and a softer rear glow fit the brand. The wall matters: its color, texture and surrounding light affect how the halo is perceived.

A front-lit design makes the faces of the letters the illuminated focal point. Consider it when you want the business name itself to read clearly against the background, particularly on a storefront or in a setting with competing visual detail.
We discuss the face material, letter proportions, depth, light color and finish for your design. A mockup helps compare the look; the final quote confirms the specification.

A double-lit sign combines illuminated faces and rear halo lighting. Choose it deliberately for that combined effect. If you want only rear halo illumination, request metal backlit instead and say that the letter faces should remain opaque.

- Will the sign be indoors, outdoors or used in both settings?
- What color and texture is the mounting wall?
- How far away will customers usually read it?
- What lighting is already present during the day and evening?
- What mounting, power and local sign requirements apply?
Send a photo of the wall with your logo.
A clear wall photo, approximate available dimensions and your logo help us consider the sign in context. Tell us which illumination effect you prefer and where the sign will be delivered. We supply the sign and discuss its requirements; a local installer handles installation.
For a storefront, check local rules with your installer before approval. The International Sign Association’s sign-planning resources are a useful starting point.
